Where colour becomes light

Original oil paintings created through layered colour, translucence, and a search for quiet intensity.

About the Artist

Valeria Kuhn Csizmadia is a Canadian painter based in Toronto. She studied painting and drawing at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, and at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, where she received a BFA with Distinction.

Her work centres on intimate single forms, notably those on the subject of beauty in form, texture, colour, experience, and memory, explored through a slow process of layering and glazing. Rather than describing the subject directly, the paintings are concerned with light as it moves through colour, and with the quiet presence that emerges from careful observation.

Process

Each painting develops through translucent layers, allowing colour, softness, and structure to emerge over time.

Current Series

My recent tulip paintings explore luminosity, delicacy, and the inner life of a single form held in stillness.
