Ordinary Objects, Extraordinary Lives

Original cabinet oil paintings contemplating the transience of beauty through flowers and ordinary things, at the height of perfection, at the moment of passing, and in the quiet afterlife where lived experience emerges from buried light beneath the shroud of shadow.

Object Poetry

What is Object Poetry?

Object Poetry begins with ordinary things. Flowers, vessels, fruit, shells, glass, cloth, and fragments of domestic life. Here, beauty is found at its height of perfection, in the quiet act of passing, and in the afterlife where ordinary objects gather history, lived experience, and buried light. Each painting invites familiar things to speak beyond their function, revealing extraordinary lives.

About the Artist

Valeria Kuhn Csizmadia is a Canadian painter based in Toronto. She studied painting and drawing at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, before receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction from Concordia University in Montréal, Québec.

Working primarily in cabinet-scale oil paintings, her practice is rooted in layered glazing, careful observation, and the poetic potential of ordinary things. Flowers, vessels, fruit, glass, shells, and other familiar objects become quiet contemplations of beauty, transience, and the lives they continue to carry.

Process

Each painting develops through successive transparent oil glazes, allowing colour, light, and form to emerge gradually. Rather than describing an object outright, the process reveals what time, atmosphere, and careful observation leave behind.

The Collection

A continuing collection of original cabinet oil paintings. Historically intended for private rooms and close viewing, cabinet paintings invite a slower encounter where light, surface, and detail gradually reveal themselves. Within this collection, flowers and ordinary things become objects of contemplation, their beauty unfolding through moments of perfection, the quiet act of passing, and the subtle traces left by time.
